Mastication is a mechanical process that breaks down large and hard foods into piece that are manageable by our digestive system.
Come on, if you could figure out how to eat a 4 oz piece of meat without chewing it do you think your body would get the full potential of it?
No, unlike a snake which will process that solid chunk of food our bodies pass the food along and you will not see the whole benefit.
So when you eat a steak you chew it, which increases the enzymes in our stomach can affect, you will get more benefit from this and more calories than eating the meat whole.
Same for hamburger, which is essentially pre-masticated.
So it is already broken down to a huge amount of surface area, and then by chewing it we are liberating those small particles from their huge clump, and since there is most likely no way your chewing a steak will come close to creating the size morsels of ground beef you will get more calories and nutrients from the food. Your body is not working as hard and all those calories are quickly absorbed all while not doing anything.
Do you need to give it up? no, but do some exercise to counter act the readily absorbed calories.
Read a book geared towards kids: Your food is fooling you, by David Kessler. This is a kid version of The end of overeating. Goes into details of the food industry and the way they create foods so that your body craves them. Decent read, many of the same theories as a lot of the authors I have listed. In talking to the creator of Cinnabon the creator said this was a treat an occasional thing, even making them for gatherings, but never was the Cinnabon meant as a daily foodstuff. There is where everyone has gone off the wall, they are eating stuff daily for every meal that should be a treat. I mean I love ice cream and I don't consider it that bad for you, but if you eat it for every meal it becomes a bad thing.
Is there anything you can eat all you want of? Well, most unadulterated vegetables probably would fit that bill.

Basically finger points and attacks against the "food elite"
As far as I know, no one is trying to regulate away from processed foods, maybe he knows something I don't. I consider myself to have converted from the processed to whole foods lifestyle and I am feeling better, do I think everyone has to do it? not really, if you are not having health problems go ahead and hopefully you never do.
Does this mean no one should buy a dozen eggs from wegmans? No, go ahead. We still do occasionally.
But I do buy local fresh eggs when I can, I just had two sunny side ups this morning over avocado and I am sorry, there is a difference.
I agree with Jayson, the government should not be banning food stuff.
Everyone knows a donut is unhealthy and that fries are not a good source for your one a day serving of vegetables.
I think the NYC ban on trans fat is ridiculous, the big soda ban is stupid, the sugar tax is obscene.
BUT label your food, let me know you are using a tranfat so I can avoid it if I so desire.
Do I drink a 1064oz big gulp every day? Hell no, and if you know someone who does slap them in the back of the head and ask them if they know why they are fat.
BUT I want to be able to buy one on my drive to florida, that sugar and caffeiene even if it comes with bizarre stuff is not gong to kill me on a solo drink and it may save soem lives as I might not fall asleep behind the weel being buzzed on caffeien and sugar.
Should people be forced to eat locally? Hell no, I like my citrus. Those floridians probably like the grapes grown up here and cranberries, i am sure there are many foodstuffs that might grow well one place and not another.
Should megafarms be shut down? No, they serve a purpose, no one would see a 1.99 chicken breast if there were only small farms, there would be no wegmans, heck no supermarkets either.
People are convinced the only way to eat cheaply is at mcdonalds, sorry charlie, you could have gotten some healthier chicken and veggies but OMG you would have to have spent 15 minutes cooking it!
Should all mcdonalds be closed? No. I enjoy a processed burger every now and again, but I do not think it is the healthy or economic daily alternative.
So good points, but he is as extreme in his opinion as the documentaries he discusses.
I believe it is not an all or nothing, it is an education.
Are all mega farms nasty and processing dead cows? no, but do some? yes.
There have been numerous studies showing that processed foods are more easily digested and therefore people do get fat because of calorie consumption.
a 1 lb hamburger is going to cost you a lot more inside your body than a 1 pound steak, plus if I am not making that hamburger I should be told if it has sawdust, vegetable oils, horse or other foreign substances in it.
The last book I have read this week on food is Bacon Nation by Peter Kaminsky and Marie Rama.
Ohhhh the dreams I will be having of dishes with bacon :D
I think the best thing in this book was creating "bacon swizzle sticks".
There are a lot of interesting bacon dishes though, some are just toss bacon in your other dish recipes.

So I will support you if you decide to get the gluten and easily digestible starches out of your life.
I will not criticize you for eating potato salad, in fact if is a warm German or is still warm from the potato cooking I might join you in some.
The government needs to back off, they are not our nanny.
This goes for driving laws, there are already laws against distracted driving, you would think people would be intelligent enough not to jabber on their phones, text, read a newspaper, shave, eat with chopsticks, put on mascara while driving, and yes I have seen each of those.
