It is really simple. If doing X makes me feel better I should continue to do X. Right?
How many of us are not doing these things? I know that if I use the sinus flush thing that i will feel better during the day. Less congested, less sneezing, easier breathing. So I do my flush every morning... right.
It is not just that of course. We know that eating this salad will make me feel better and if I eat that 300 calorie donut for breakfast I will be starving in 20 minutes. We make excuses, we cheat, we indulge.
I often tell people as they sneak something they are not supposed to that you cannot cheat on what you decide. Whether that be what you are eating, or that you only work out for 20 minutes or you stayed up late, you made the decision. Who exactly are you cheating on, you cannot cheat on yourself, or you risked everyone's life by going through that "yellow" light you know you are doing it. Do you think you are getting away with something? Well, even Kristin doesn't care if I decide not to eat my salad so no, not cheating on her. So abandon the feeling of cheating, thinking okay I will sneak this one bite. Once you realize you are only negatively impacting yourself you can start the road to recovery.
When I first started with the new nutritional plan I would get to lunch and oh, I will cheat and go grab some fired chicken, I can put it on the salad so it is going to be healthy. Who was I fooling? I knew it wasn't healthy, I knew the scales would be up a pound each day I ate that chicken. What an idiot. Now I see the donut, the fried chicken or whatever the temptress and I think to myself okay, this is going to cost me, I am not going to feel as good tomorrow, my body is going to revolt in processing that. I may still do it, but I do not feel like "I got away with it". My body, my decision, my fault if the outcome is negative.
So to go with this story I want to show you the results of my new toy.
I strapped in 4 turnips and made noodles. They are beautiful!
They are slightly crunchy, but not hard, have that al dente feel.
If they were too hard I figured I would cook them some or drop them in boiling water for a few minutes, but these were good to go.
I made a "pasta" sauce with some tomatoes, garlic, onion, escarole and dumped the pasta into the pan when it was done to warm it up.
Everyone was happy, you could twirl it on your fork, you could slurp it, honestly I think if you dumped a can of prego on it and cooked the noodles in water for a few minutes you could sneak them on a kids plate without them knowing.
So live life, enjoy yourself, but do not do things that you know you will regret, life is too short for that.
Do the things that will make you feel better, the only one you are lying to is yourself.
I will try to get back here more often, it helps to keep my head straight to "talk" about it, even if I am talking to myself.
