In case you don't know me all that well I like to geocache.
Geocaching is basically this: Person A goes into the woods and hides a piece of tupperware with a paper logsheet and possibly some trinkets in it for trading.
Person A then goes to geocaching.com and posts the coordinates from their GPS so others can go look for it.
Person B goes out with their GPS to the posted coordinates finds the tupperware signs the logbook and then trades trinkets.
Does this sound stupid? Maybe, I enjoy the hunt though, when I am person B it goes more like: Person B stumbles around the coordinates, scratching his head, looks right at the container without seeing it and repeats this for 20 minute, then stumbles through the nearest pricker bush to leave the woods.
I still love it. First it gets me out to walk. Second, my youngest loves to do it with me and it can be some real bonding time. When was the last time your kid asked to go biking down the Erie canal?
Anyways, why did I bring this up?
Well I have not been walking all that well.
I am getting the diet straightened out and it is moving but is really stiff and the knee has buckled at less than perfect times on me.
I have been walking around the plant to get some exercise in, but with the great weather we've been having I ventured out at lunch to do some nearby caching.
Again, so why do you ring this up?
Get a hobby! Now! One that requires movement is preferred!
Don't think Eh, I'll wait for retirement to get a hobby.
Because A) you won't and B) you will miss out on the positive impact it has on your life.
I go out and even though I am not walking perfectly, I get to enjoy the sunshine and the birds, and some light exercise as I lumber to my destination.
I also feel serene. The woods will do that to you, plus just doing something you enjoy makes you feel better.
Better feeling means better living.
Do pick up some clubs and golf, or a racket and play badminton, maybe even a ball to play one of the many sports using balls, or a camera to take nature photos, or a walking stick to go out and enjoy the flowers and trees, or your GPS and go find a cache. I would love to introduce you to caching if you don't understand it.
Pick a hobby you can do with your kids if you have them, the more time yoe spend with them the less time they are getting into trouble and the greater bond you are creating between
