There are gluten free products that are naturally gluten free.
Eggs, celery, carrots, quinoa for example.
The problem is that like every other craze that has come by: fat-free, sugar-free, atkins, protein, vegan the food companies have found a way to keep getting rich and providing you with what you "need".
The government decided in the 80's that fat was making us fat and we all needed to cut fat out of our diet. Well for a while a low fat diet worked. Why? Because it meant you ate a lot of vegetables and lean meat because there was no low fat junk food. Well the food companies couldn't have that so snackwell was born. How did they make a low fat cookie taste good? The dumped in a whole pile of sugar. Why? Well since the fat wasn't there to cause you to crave more they needed something that would: sugar. They also tasted horrible, so they dumped in a pile of sugar to make it more palatable. Well then for some reason all the low fat dieters that had been doing so good failed. Piles of snack, ice cream, hips, cookies, I don't know if there is a section of junk food that didn't get a low fat option.
This happened with Atkins too. Lose weight it was great, then all the Atkins approved junk food came out so you found yourself snacking.
Diet plan: Just stop snacking, unless you are hungry don't put food in your mouth.
I find this hard as I am a compulsive eater, if it is in front of me i am going to eat it.
So back to the gluten free thing. The latest thing is this surge in celiac sufferers and the people that are being diagnosed or just deciding they are gluten intolerant. Well here comes the junk food. Brownies, pies, cookies, pasta... have to make sure you can snack away. The problem is commercially the only inexpensive way to eliminate gluten is to replace the flour with corn, potato or rice starch. These do not contain gluten, so it is good news fr the celiac patient but if you are doing this because you dont feel good and want to shed a few pounds then this is nothing great and the starches amount to little but sugar. Look for some alternative that uses nut flours.
Well I am exhausted and my knee is bothering me so I am blaming the indulgence in chinese food which is going to have lots of hidden wheat and therefore increases inflammation, so I am going to bed.
