Well, it was cool today, think it topped out in the high 70s, low 80s, it even sprinkled.
Refreshing to say the least. Been busy at work mastering Microsoft's VMM and 2012 Domains and DFS and the havoc they can cause when set up incorrectly. Learned that HP switches are crap. Kind of works that the family is not ere since i havent been leaving work until 6/630 or whatever since a lot of this needed to be done after the office users are gone. I can call kristin while I am still there since it is bed time on the east coast and then can hit the tore or do whatever on the way home. I have learned that no matter how little amount of stuff you need it is nearly impossible to leave walmart spending less than 20 bucks. Oh yeah, I need a pair of scissors, and a pen (they blow up if you leave them in your car on a 115 degree day) might as well pick up some canned goods... you know how it goes The only thing they didnt have? THE FAN WHICH IS WHY I WENT IN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! Oh well. I have a massive driver's tan :D Have picked up a few geocaches, even the quick park and grabs com with a terrific view! I was really late tonight so i grabbed a quick bowl of Pho at a restaurant around the corner. This stuff is addictive, too bad the 8 bucks can buy me a trip's worth of groceries at El Super. thats right 2 El Super trips a week and the misc stuff at wallys or smiths or sprouts, I figure 25 a week in groceries. I am looking at money differently now that I am alone. keeping the eating out to preferably once a week, but usually ends up beign a couple due to lack of time. Of course i need to save this money so i can pay my admission into the drive in, or in the case of this weekend a Weird Al concert. The Big Ell performs for free a few days a week so i might go check out him some day, and there are always lounges with singers at the boulder highway casinos, even saw some go go dancers on pit platforms at The D. Took a picture of Sigma Derby at The D, much fancier than the one at MGM, also a crap load tighter, not a single top payout the entire time I was there. Alright, got to go to bed and see if i can sleep better tonight. Okay so i should look at the pictures i take to mark sure they came out. The bellagio fountain from my birthday ride up the Eiffel tower. Place is a mob scene.
People are idiots. The days of what happens in vegas stays in vegas are over. Your dumb antics have been filmed by at least a dozen people and will be on youtube in a matter of minutes. I love these newlyweds too. Woman is in a glamorous wedding gown and the guy manages to put a tie on over his t-shirt and shorts. I did go to see Pixels, anybody that grew up in the 80s and remembers putting a quarter in the slot will enjoy it. Watched some of mission impossible which was on a different screen but Pixels started before it was over so didnt see the end. It was 11;30 when i left so i stopped to watch the light show on fremont which is where the freaks hang out on friday night. Score two against me.. screw in the back tire and found a headlight out on the way home, sheesh. Oh yeah, had enchilada stew for dinner since the tortillas fell apart :) Took them to the drive-in with me. Well have to look up car stores for tomorrow. Good night folks As my RIT friend would put it I managed another revolution around the sun.
Installed a replacement switch at work, crashed the entire network, but then managed to fix it! So all is good, all learning opportunities. I am so stuffed right now it hurts.. why is this bad? Well, two reasons: 1 I wont be able to get to sleep, 2 Im never going to be able to choke down this water. I havent been doing the greatest on water intake, so I have been sitting here at the end of my nights with a cup and a gallon jug of water. Between 9 and 10 I polish off the 32 oz cup then finish off the gallon jug. How dehydrated do you get? I don't even have to get up to use the bathroom at night. Thinking about the drive in tomorrow to see Pixels, so there wont be a post tomorrow if i do. Wont have to eat all weekend so i will have a lot of free time. Night folks Picked up my mail today and there was a plethora of cards in there,.
Bitter sweet as it reminded me of everything I am missing. So what is on the schedule for my birthday? nothing. Work, then i am going to go to the strip and take my free ride up the Eiffel Tower. That is about it. Booked tickets to go home for a weekend to see the family, really looking forward to that. Still waiting for the heat to break, it is supposed to start getting under 100 but it is still staying warm and the nights are still in the 80s. Birthday treat? Maybe I will go to the drive in again :D Pixels is playing but I will have to suffer through the minions. I didn't maintain consciousness through ant man, so i am concerned about that. Oh well, it is late and I have to go to bed so i can wake up for work but I wanted to write something. Whew! The bomb wasn't a bomb, hopefully it wasn't another geocache :D Okay not really.
But I do get to sit around in my underwear with the fan blowing on me to cool off :D So when I first got here it was 114 degrees... yeah that is hot, but guess what. It was more comfortable than a 90 degree day in CNY. Just keep a bottle of water handy and stay in the shade. Supposed to go down to sub hundred this week, but the local forecasters are just as good as CNY forecasters and we have another week of 100s. Did I go out for a walk this evening? You bet, had to go get a cache! Did I walk in my jeans? Sure, why not? Went shopping to make garlic broccoli since I wanted a break from the bean dish, but I couldn't find garlic sauce and the only spicy sauce was straight chili sauce which i didn't really want, so just have some oatmeal since I didn't get home until 830 or so. Banged my head on some Microsoft stuff today. Anyone that has had to dig into the depths of any Microsoft products knows how I feel. Talked with Kristin about heading home for a weekend to visit the girls. I fear going home because I will end up stepping on the scale and I haven't behaved as well as i should. Anyways, work is a great distraction from just going back to an empty room. Believe me I've been trying to read, but I fall asleep after a couple sentences, maybe I need to go get a large print book :) Living one day at a time in Vegas, who'd have thunk I'd ever say that? :D So this was all new.
I am living alone in a studio apartment. I am sleeping on a camping cot with a blow up mattress. I had to do laundry and I haven't done that in years. Work is good, interesting, exciting, scary all sorts of possibilities. They go out to lunch every day. Trying to behave and stick to my salads. Spending time house hunting and looking at neighborhoods too. Well when you are still driving around at 8pm you grab something out, aka crap. I did have a wonderful bowl of Pho and plenty of authentic Mexican food. I have been cooking for myself, but one dish lasts 3 or 4, okay sometimes 1 meal. I have made broccoli in garlic sauce, vegan chumbah, zucchini pasta, nopales tacos, thai broccoli with cabbage noodles, pasilla peppers stuffed with spanish rice and calabacitas, and enchiladas. Fitness center just opened thursday or friday and so I tried that out tonight. As for regions, I am living in the northeast, not the nicest part of town. Spent my first weekend doing stupid vegas touristy stuff which did not leave me feeling well. Spent the next weekend hanging in Henderson and then went down to boulder city, which made me feel a little better. This weekend I checked out the library, beautiful, and Clark County Wetlands Park, which is also beautiful. I also wasted a crapload of gas driving to Lake Havasu. I saw London Bridge and a whole lot of tattooed people, there was a festival going on. Well going to do some reading. Well, I said to myself Self you should blog some of this to keep your mind clear and of course I didn't. Wait! Now I am, better late than never I guess.
Anyways I quit my job of 19 years, it was dead end and was sinking deeper into a cesspool every day. My youngest daughter thinks I did this purely to destroy her life, ahh to be 14 again. I put in my two weeks and then drove to my new job in Nevada. That is right, I moved from CNY to Nevada, almost 2500 miles. 4 days of driving, I stopped to pick up a couple mystery caches in Ohio that I had worked on a couple years ago. Drove through a lot of states I had not really been to before and then drove through Texas. Who in the hell designed Texas? NOTHING, Absolutely nothing. I mean there are stretches in Nevada and Arizona, but at least you have mountains to look at. Didn't eat well and really didn't eat much at all. Landed in Vegas on the 15th of August so I could start working on the 17th, nothing like taking some time off between jobs.... right..... Well, I said I was going to go workout, but then I had already said I was going to do this too, so now I've done this and will go do that. Maybe tonight, after dinner, when it gets quiet and I don't know what to do with myself, yeah, that is it, I will be back then. See you later. Admit it you've been so hungry that your starving, right?
I heard that today, after they ate a breakfast from Tim Horton's and lunch from Panera none the less. Me? two egg muffins and couple tablespoons of yogurt with the mix ins. Me? I didn't even realize that it was lunchtime, heck I missed quitting time. Was I hungry? No, to tell the truth I wasn't. That protein goes a long way, those carbs will leave you flat. I can't remember the last time I was "starving" I usually end up eating from emotional reasons or plain boredom. These habits I need to learn how to curb, but I do recognize the problem, which is the first step to recovery. |
