A friend sent me a link to a gluten free website. I checked it out last night and found it very interesting. I feel reassured every time I read info from different people about the detrimental effects of wheat. The more I hear the more scared I get for Americans. We really are killing ourselves and if we don't take action it will spiral out of control.
What I found interesting was that this doctor referenced over 190 ailments/diseases that can be connected to gluten (found in grains, wheat being the largest contributor). He is not claiming that gluten causes these problems but could be a contributor to them.
I took notice of several of these because they personally affect me and my family. One is multiple sclerosis which Brad struggles with each day. There is no cure for it (yet!). Next, vitiligo which my youngest daughter Alyssa has and for which there is no remedy or even anything to slow its progression. (For those of you not familiar with vitiligo, it is a loss of pigment in the skin. The cells that make melanin (pigment) die or stop producing it. It leaves white patches on the skin). Spontaneous nosebleeds was also listed which both my girls have had for years. Finally, autism was listed. Although it doesn't affect my family directly, I work as a teaching assistant with many students that have autism.
So if gluten can contribute to these and any of the other problems Dr. Osborne lists, why not give it up?? If it may help, then I say it's a no brainer to try. Especially since eating wheat is bad for all the reasons Brad and I have stated in this blog. It contributes to weight gain which in turns leads to diabetes, heart disease, cancer, so on and so on.
Watch this video from Dr. Osborne, it's a little long but worth it.
